Training & Compliance · For Maryland Assisted Living Facilities

Everything your assisted living facility needs to stay survey-ready.

Two jobs, one system, built by a state-licensed Maryland Assisted Living Manager. Training keeps your caregivers compliant — every mandatory course, at hire and every year, tracked with instant verifiable certificates. The Compliance Platform keeps your facility compliant — your fire drills, incident reports, and binder, filled out on any phone, computer, or tablet, stored electronically, and organized just the way a surveyor expects to see it.

Who built this

Made by an operator, not a training company.

I'm Aaron Payne. I own and operate assisted living in Maryland, and I worked shifts in these homes long before I owned one. I built The Care Insider because the training I was buying for my own staff was outdated and hard to use — and it wasn't written by anyone who had done the job.

The Care Insider is an approved training vendor with Maryland's Office of Health Care Quality for the Assisted Living Manager training program.

Step 1 · Mandatory

Handle your required caregiver training

Maryland requires it for every caregiver, at hire and every year after, so we made it painless. Caregivers train on any phone — no usernames to forget — and every completion becomes an instant, verifiable certificate with due-date tracking, so your personnel files are always ready to open.

$69 per caregiver / year

Step 2 · The upgrade

Put the rest of your facility on autopilot

The Compliance Platform is your binder, digital: fire drills filled out on a phone with finger-signatures, incident reports with the 24-hour clock built in, recurring checks that remind you before they're overdue, and after-action problems that become tracked tasks instead of forgotten ink. Every record stored, timestamped, and printable.

And Step 1 is covered completely: every required caregiver training, new hire and annual, for your entire staff, is included. One price covers the platform and the people — no per-person fees.

Get set up

Pay annually and get 2 months free. Own more than one home? Every additional facility is half price. Facilities over 16 beds, talk to us. Bundle includes the caregiver training catalog; the 80-hour ALM licensing course is a separate program.

What this platform is not

It is not clinical software. No MAR or eMAR, no medication orders or dosing, no nurse charting, no assessments, no care notes, no service plans. That work stays with your delegating nurse and the medication system you use today.

What we track is that the required things happened, with a date and a signature: the delegating nurse visit, the pharmacist review, the two-signature shift count sheet, the incident report, every drill, every log, every staff file. And the surveyor can see each one.

Do I need a separate subscription for each facility?

Yes, and every facility after your first is half price: the bundle is $49.50 a month instead of $99. The discount applies by itself at checkout when the same login already pays for another facility. One login runs all of your buildings; you switch between them from a dropdown at the top of the screen.

Each building is its own subscription because the state licenses and surveys each one separately. Every facility gets its own compliance calendar and reminders, its own staff chart and training seats, its own drill and incident records, and its own surveyor link, so when a surveyor walks into your second house, they see that house's binder and nothing else.

From a Google review · 80-Hour ALM Course graduate

“I recently completed the 80-hour Assisted Living Manager certificate through The Care Insider and had a great experience. I found the course through a Google search, and the self-paced format was exactly what I needed while working in assisted living.

The website was easy to use, the lessons and quizzes were well organized, and I had no trouble downloading my certificate. I’ve worked in assisted living for five years, so much of the material was familiar, but I appreciated being able to move through it at my own pace. The process was so smooth that I was able to get my fingerprints, background check, employment letter, and passport photo taken care of the day after I finished. Now I’m waiting for approval. I would recommend this course to anyone pursuing their ALM certificate!”

The 80-hour ALM course — quick answers

Can I take the Maryland 80-hour Assisted Living Manager course online?
Yes. The Care Insider teaches the 80-hour Assisted Living Manager course 100% online and self-paced, and is approved by the Maryland Office of Health Care Quality (OHCQ) to teach it. There are no classroom days, no Zoom sessions, and no cohort start dates — you can enroll and start the same day.
Is the 25-hour limit on online training still in effect?
No. The old version of COMAR 10.07.14.16 capped Internet-based training at 25 of the 80 hours. That cap was removed when Maryland rewrote its assisted living regulations effective April 28, 2025. The current rule allows the course to be delivered through in-person courses, virtual training methods, or a combination of both, so the full 80 hours can be taken online from an OHCQ-approved vendor.
How much does the 80-hour Assisted Living Manager course cost?
The Care Insider course is $997, one time, with no access expiry. Classroom and live-virtual versions of the course from other Maryland vendors run about $1,155 to $1,400 and meet on fixed dates.
Who needs the 80-hour course?
Since July 1, 2026, practicing as an assisted living manager in Maryland requires a license from the State Board of Long-Term Care Administrators. The 80-hour manager training, taken from an OHCQ-approved vendor, is the training step on that path. It covers every required content area of COMAR 10.07.14.17 and ends with a required final examination.
Is The Care Insider approved by the state?
Yes. The Care Insider is listed by name on the OHCQ approved-vendor list for both the 80-hour Assisted Living Manager course and the 20-hour continuing education. OHCQ approves vendors per course, so check that any vendor you consider is approved for the 80 hours specifically.
What do licensed managers need after the 80-hour course?
Licensed Assisted Living Managers need 20 hours of continuing education every two-year renewal cycle. The Care Insider is OHCQ-approved for that 20-hour course as well — $197, online, self-paced.

For Residential Service Agencies · Home Care

RSA / home care training

An RSA (Residential Service Agency) is Maryland's license for home care — agencies that send caregivers into clients' homes. A staff-training track built to their rules is in the works.

In development

Maryland RSA Caregiver Core Training

Maps to COMAR 10.07.05.11C — the required training topics for home-care staff

Maryland requires every RSA to train anyone providing care in a client’s home on seven specific topics — and to keep proof of that training in each personnel file, where surveyors look for it. This track covers the six topics that can be taught online, one module each, with completion tracking and certificates for your files:

  • Personal care in the home — ADLs, transfers, bathing, skin
  • When to call the nurse — recognizing & reporting condition changes
  • Documentation & record keeping for home care
  • Ethics, confidentiality & client rights in the home
  • Infection control & standard precautions in the home setting
  • Preventing, recognizing & reporting abuse and neglect

CPR — the seventh required topic — is hands-on and can’t be taken online; record it with the platform’s external-certificate upload. Supervised skills practice stays with your agency RN, and the track includes a printable skills-demonstration checklist for that sign-off. Built by an operator who has been through a real RSA survey and plan of correction.
